Django Unchained

Django Unchained tells the story of an unlikely hero in his rise to freedom and revenge against those who have wronged him the most. Django was a slave in the Deep South, who was purchased by Dr. Schultz. Dr. Schultz teaches him how to be a bounty hunter, which later frees him from his life of slavery by having a skill set not many posses.Through the eyes of Django we see the brutality and racism embedded in the South and all that he endures. We see him rise against the chains that bind him and become the hero of his own story. 

 

In my telling of Django Unchained Django is the main character who overcomes the obstacles that come his way. He is a strong man full of tenacity and willpower, who has a way of succeeding in the most fascinating of odds. Django, along with other varying characters have flashbacks and flashforwards throughout the script. I plan on using these moments as a way to better show the through line with costumes and color. I will also use color and texture as a way to indicate status, symbol, and rank. Django's character arc is based around his garment color and choice. I will use blues and greens as his primary color palette. While Dr. Schultz, the spunky German sidekick will be dressed in grays. My hope is to juxtapose our main character and his accomplice from the rest of the characters by the use of costumes. Allowing the clothing to show the transformation that takes place in Django's life throughout the script.

 

Clothing is an armor to Django, he wears it in a way that shows his status and power. It separates him from slavery and past, to his future and where he is going.
